An In-Depth WORX Landroid M WR14 Review: Powerful Robotic Lawn Mower!

In our high-tech, automated world, it is now possible to buy a robot lawn mower.

That’s exactly how it sounds. Instead of spending hours cutting your grass every weekend…

…you can enjoy doing things you actually enjoy.

It is still relatively new to have a robot mow your lawn.

As the market is expanding, there are many options to choose from…

…one of which is the WORX Landroid M WR14…

…which is often listed as the WORX Landroid M WR140.

The two machines are identical.

The official name is the “140,” but it is now so popular that many simply refer to it as the “14.”

Must be nice to have that kind of status!

With several models to choose from, WORX is one of the top brands…

…when it comes to robotic lawn mowers.

Take a look at the WORX Landroid M WR14 review, features…

…and pros and cons to decide if this is the robot lawn mower for you.

Here are a few words from Bobby…

There is a lot of moving around with the ins and outs of fence posts and a shed and walkways in my yard.

Just 50 more feet of wire and 50 pegs were needed to finish the job.

On a shady side of the house (no grass) I have a 12.5 inch “pathway”…

between the front and back yards that my mower can traverse through…

and under the fence (cut out). In the event I do not want…

to mow the back yard or need to work on it…

you can easily place a block of wood to block access to the side and back yards.

Walking around the perimeter/cutting with it has helped me see low spots that I missed filling.

I received compliments from neighbors the first day I used it.

Everyone likes to watch it bump into trees and mailbox posts and redirect itself.

It does not scratch or damage anything; I even watched it hit my car a couple of times

Now let’s get started…

Is the Landroid WORX M WR 140 A Discontinued Model?

One thing you should know before we start: the WORX M WR 140 has actually been discontinued.

Don’t worry, though! Hope still exists.

The Landroud WORK M WR 147, which replaces it, is the same product.

The only change Landroid made was to update the name, but they changed very little else.

Therefore, we will still be reviewing the WORK M WR 14, but when you buy this machine…

…you will actually be buying the M WR147. The features and benefits are the same.

Only the name has changed.

Now that we’ve clarified that, let’s begin our WORX Landroid M WR14 review.

Features of the WORX Landroid M WR14

A robot lawn mower does more or less the same thing: it cuts your grass.

Each one, however, offers something unique. The WORX Landroid M WR14 has the following main features:

¼ Acre Range

When choosing a robot lawn mower, you should consider how large an area it can cut.

The battery life and the length of the blade play a large role in this.

Powered by a 4 Amp battery and a 7″ cutting blade…

…the WORX Landroid M WR14 can cut up to 14 acres at once before needing to be recharged.

You may find that this range is somewhat smaller in reality…

…especially if you have many obstacles in your yard.

Floating Blade Deck

Many people don’t have flat lawns. To go uphill with a standard mower…

…all you have to do is push harder or step on the gas.

Robotic mowers have to do it on their own.

Overall, the WORX Landroid M WR140 can handle up to 35 percent grade, or 20 degrees.

With other models, the blade will dig into the ground…

…producing an uneven cut that does not look good.

This model has a floating blade deck, so even when on a hill, it will cut flat and evenly.

Small and Compact

The WORX Landroid M WR14 stands out…

…from its competitors because it is so small and compact.

It is just 22″ long and 15″ deep, and weighs just 22 pounds, making it easier to pick up and move.

The motor is quiet because it is so small.

Artificial intelligenceThe WORX WR140 uses artificial intelligence to navigate.

Without this, many mowers would get tripped up and turn around in narrow spaces.

This technology is patented, so you won’t find it in any other model.

Mobile AppProbably no one ever thought we’d live in a world…

…with lawn mowers controlled by apps on our phones, but that is how it works.

In order to use the WORX Landroid M WR14, you must have the WORX app.

The app allows you to monitor the mower’s performance…

…set a mowing schedule, and also stay on top of regular maintenance.

However, you cannot control the mower remotely like you can with other models.

Rain Sensor

The WORX WR140 is one of the few robot lawn mowers that is fully water resistant…

…meaning it can cut the grass even when it is raining.

With its rain sensor, the WORX Landroid M WR14 will stop cutting…

…when the grass gets wet and return to its charging station.

Wet grass can clog the mower and also harm your lawn.

It will then head out again and continue where it left off when it stops. How handy is that?

Here’s the main part…

Having reviewed the main features of the WORX Landroid M WR14…

…you can probably see why it’s such a great option for those looking to save time and money.

While there are a lot of things we like about this mower, there are a few things we wish were different.

Following an exhaustive review of the WORX Landroid M WR140, here are its pros and cons.

Pros

Here are the things we really like about the WORX Landroid M WR14.

Quiet

This is one of the best things about this mower.

Despite having a fairly powerful motor, it emits just 63 decibels of sound.

It is about ten decibels quieter than many of the other robot lawn mowers on the market.

That may not seem like much, but it is.

However, since this mower works best on small lawns (likely in a city)…

…we appreciate how unobtrusive it is. In other words, you won’t wake up the neighbors!

Fast Charging Time

The WORX Landroid M WR14 can charge from dead to full in just 90 minutes.

You can use this if your lawn is slightly larger than ¼ acres or if it is full of obstacles.

In this case, it’s likely that the mower will not be able to run on one charge…

…so it will return to its base to recharge.

Because this only takes an hour and a half, it will be back cutting your grass by the end of the day.

Easy-to-Use Mobile App

Robot lawn mowers all come with an app, but the one for the WORX WR140…

…stands out due to its ease of use.

Developed for iPhone and Android, the app is straightforward.

On the home screen, you can access everything…

…(progress, maintenance schedule, battery life, cutting schedule, etc.)…

…and find useful information about how to take care of your device.

Moreover, you can also turn on notifications…

…which will alert you when the mower has started, stopped…

…and if any problems need to be resolved.

It will also alert you when routine maintenance is due.

Edge Cutter

Anyone who has had to mow the grass all these years knows it’s a two-part project.

You must first cut the grass, and then you must go back and cut the edges.

Many robot lawn mowers still require this step.

This is not the case with the Landroid M WR140 from WORX.

Using a floating deck that extends to the edges of the mower…

…the WORX Landroid M WR14 is able to cut grass within an inch of your house and other obstacles…

…leaving your lawn 100 percent done when it returns to its charger.

“Ideally, the mower’s razor blade-style blades are going to just tick off 1/4″–1/2″ of grass at a time, but it’s more powerful than it looks.”

David Smokay – Tech Reviewer

PriceLast but not least, the WORX Landroid M WR14 is a great price.

You should be able to find it for $1,100, depending on where you get it.

Usually, this price tag is reserved for less-performing budget options…

…but that’s not the case with the WORX Landroid M WR14.

While it’s a quality machine, it’s also affordable.

If you are new to robotic lawn mowers, you might think they are more expensive than regular mowers.

Due to the fact that these devices do not require fuel…

…oil, spark plugs, etc., and require very little maintenance…

…they end up being cheaper to own in the long run.

We love this model because you can also spend $5,000 or more on a big robotic lawn mower.

Go on…

Cons

The WORX Landroid M WR14 is a great robot lawn mower, but no one is perfect.

You should be aware of these drawbacks:

Small Cutting Area

Even though it might work for some people, 1/4 acres isn’t a very big cutting area…

…especially when there are plenty of other models available that cover .5 acres or more.

In order to compensate for this, the WORX Landroid M WR14 has a fast charging time…

…which allows it to cover more ground by cutting your lawn in phases.

For those who do not live in urban areas or in densely populated areas…

…this mower might become impractical rather quickly.

Installation

This isn’t a criticism of the WORX Landroid M WR14…

…so much as it is of the entire industry of robotic lawn mowers. Installing them isn’t easy.

They rely on a fence that marks the boundary of your property for those who don’t know.

Other sensors are used to map the path.

This wire can theoretically be set up yourself, but unless you do it exactly right…

…the mower might not figure out its optimal route.

This can be solved by having a professional install the wire…

…which can cost between $500 and $1,000. It’s not cheap, but it can’t be avoided.

If you decide to go with a robot lawn mower, make sure you factor this into the total cost.

Sum Up!

While the Worx Landroid M 20V Cordless Robotic Lawn Mower (WR140…)

… is not the cheapest model on the market, it is one of the least expensive models…

…and it does an excellent job of mowing and trimming your lawn.

This time around, it has GPS and Wi-Fi radios and works…

…with a slick mobile app you can use to control it from anywhere.

Additionally to starting and stopping the mower, setting cutting schedules, and monitoring its progress…

…the app will send status alerts to let you know what it is currently doing.

It will even tell you where the mower is if someone decides to steal it from your property.

It would be nice if the app offered remote control so you could steer the mower yourself…

…but that’s just a minor complaint that doesn’t prevent…

…the Worx Landroid M WR140 from earning our Editors’ Choice.

Conclusion

There are a lot of reasons to like the WORX Landroid M WR14, as you can see.

With its small yet powerful motor, it can easily and effectively cut small yards.

With its modest price tag, it is a cost-effective way to save time and money.

If you’ve got a large lawn and don’t want to spend your weekends mowing the lawn…

…consider purchasing the WORX Landroid M WR14.
