About Cylindrical Snake Plant

South Africa is the country of origin. Up to 2 ft. tall (60 cm) Light: Full sun to bright light. Don’t worry if you relocate Sansevieria cylindrica outside for the summer; it can handle the heat. To avoid scorching its leaves, make the transition into direct sunshine gradually. Scorch marks appear as gray or brown areas on the skin.

Water thoroughly, then let the potting mix dry completely before watering again. The leaves of the rosette will decay if they are watered in the center. Water the soil, but avoid getting water on the leaves, as this can cause them to decay. The plant is overwatered if the leaves turn yellow or become soft and mushy at the base.

Humidity: Typical room (about 40% relative humidity) or lower. Snake plants can survive in dry air, but keep them away from drafts and air vents.

Room temperatures range from 65 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit (18 to 24 degrees Celsius). It can withstand temperature changes, but not below 55°F/13°C.

Cactus potting mix works best since it drains quickly. This succulent will die if the potting medium becomes too wet.

Fertilizer: Feed succulent plants once a month from spring to fall, using a fertilizer formulated specifically for succulents and blended at half the recommended dosage. In the winter, when development is slower, don’t feed.

Division is the method of propagation. Separate the “pups” (offsets) that grow at the base of the parent plant to propagate Snake Plant. It’s simple to divide them. Turn the pot on its side and carefully remove the plant. Cut off the offsets with a sharp knife and boil them up separately.

How To Separate Cylindrical Snake Plant

Remove as much dirt as possible from your plant and place it on a hard surface.

Cut the rhizome just about in the center with your sharp, clean blade. Make sure you have some of the rhizome and at least 2-3 roots left. You should wait if there are no roots.

Put your young one in some fresh potting soil and water it (which should last a while).

Before watering the soil again, allow it to totally dry.

There you have it! Your task is complete! You may have been instructed to let the pup sit out of soil for a few days to allow the rhizome to calluses over before planting. My 10% is where it comes in. My Bantel’s Sensation had two pups, as you can see in the photo.

One was buried directly in soil, and the other I left out to callus over. A few days later, that plant died. This could very well be due to my cutting it prematurely (size and age). However, I have not faced any problems since then, as I have placed all my pups directly into soil.

If you visit my Instagram , look for the purple pot and you can see how this pup is doing. He has really great color and you can see the beautiful white stripes which makes Bantel’s Sensation Sansevieria so desirable. Sansevieria are slow growing so he’s still small but his roots are growing strong!

Leaf cuttings can also be used to propagate African Spear, albeit slowly. Make sections of about 3 inches from a stalk. Then plant them with the right side up in soil after allowing them to callus.

Maintaining the same orientation is important even after they have been cut. Growing upside-down isn’t very successful for plants.

Sooner or later, new roots should emerge. When you aren’t getting any results, consider rooting hormone.
