Jade is an excellent houseplant especially when grown in a traditional terracotta pot Jade plants are succulent houseplants…
…that are hardy and easy to grow indoors as well as being long-lived.
Find out how to take care of your jade plant. Jade plants have a miniature tree like appearance…
…with thick woody stems and oval-shaped leaves making them ideal for use as a decorative houseplant.
Interesting Right?
When grown indoors they can reach heights of three feet or more and are frequently passed down from generation to generation.
The warm, dry conditions found in most homes are ideal for jade plants.
During the growing season spring and summer. keep the plant well-watered and during the dormant season keep it drier (fall, winter).
Even during the growing season however, the soil should be allowed to dry completely between watering because jade is prone to rot.
In areas with a mild dry climate jade plants can be grown year-round as landscape plants typically Zone 10 and warmer.

Because they are sensitive to cold it’s best to grow jade in containers and bring them inside when the temperature drops below 50°F (10°C).
Here’s the story from Kamali about growing, and caring for his snake plant until his Jade growing bigger than he ever expected.
Let’s hear Kamali’s story
In 2019, my boss gave me a jade plant.
He said it was because I’m always so hardworking and nice to him, but I think he just wanted the pot for himself.
Anyway, I took the plant home with me that day and put it in my room where there’s lots of natural light.
I fertilize it growing it with care and patience and all of his needs for my Jade Plant to grow.
It has been a lot of journey anger and happiness time spent with this plant.
It sat there for weeks without doing anything so I got really fed up one day…
…while at work and went to a garden store near my house on break tim and found out they sold flowers like those too!
So now this plant growing big! Bigger than I expected!
Let’s jump in to te main part…
How to Plant Jade Plants
Because jade plants have a tendency to grow top-heavy and fall over choose a wide sturdy pot with a moderate depth.
Use a soil that drains well as too much moisture can lead to fungal diseases like root rot.
You can use any all-purpose potting mix, but you’ll need to add more perlite to improve drainage. A 2:1 potting mix…
…to perlite ratio is ideal. Use a pre-made succulent or cactus potting mix..
Instead, don’t water a jade plant right away after it’s been planted.
Allowing the roots to settle and recover from any damage can take anywhere from a few days to a week…
…before watering. Jade plants that are older may develop a thick scaly trunk giving them a tree-like appearance.

How to Start a Jade Plant from a Leaf or Stem Cutting
Jade plants are easy to grow from single leaves or cuttings as a succulent.
Here’s how to do it:
Take a stem cutting, or a leaf from a well-established plant,
A perfect stem cutting would be 2–3 inches long and have two pairs of leaves.
Allow your leaf or cutting to sit in a warm place for several days;
a callous will form over the cut area preventing rot and encouraging rooting.
Collect your pot and a potting mix that drains well.
Use a slightly moist but not wet, soil.
Take the leaf and lay it horizontally on top of the soil covering the cut end with some soil.
Place a stem cutting upright in the soil if it won’t stand on its own prop it up with a few small…
…rocks or toothpicks.
Place the pot in a warm direct light environment.
Do not irrigate, the leaf or cutting will begin to send out roots after a week or two.
Next…
Give the plant a gentle poke or tug after a week or so to see if it has rooted itself in place.
If it hasn’t, give it a few more days and test it gently! every few days.
Water the plant deeply and carefully once it appears to be firmly rooted.
Gently water the plant with something like a turkey baster to avoid disturbing the roots too much.
You want to encourage the roots to grow downward for water not towards the surface…
…so make sure you don’t just wet the top layer of the soil.
Allow the soil to dry between watering and keep the plant away from direct sunlight until it has established itself.
How to Care for Jade Plants
Each day, jade plants require at least 4 hours of direct sunlight.
Young plants should be kept in bright indirect sunlight…
…while larger well-established jade plants can tolerate more direct sunlight.
Kitchens and offices with a south-facing window as well as western-facing windows…
…are typically great spots with just enough light.
Room temperature (65° to 75°F / 18° to 24°C) is ideal for it..
…but they prefer slightly cooler temperatures at night and in the winter (down to 55°F / 13°C).
Next up…
Note that jade is not frost resistant so if you keep yours outside during the summer bring it inside once…
…the temperatures drop to around 50°F (10°C) in the fall.
Watering jade plants correctly is very important:
When the plant is actively growing in the spring and summer it will require more water than at other times of the year.
Water it thoroughly then wait until the soil has dried out completely before watering it again.
This means that depending on how quickly the soil dries out you may need to water it once a week or once a month.
The plant may go dormant in the fall and winter causing it to slow or stop growing entirely.
It won’t require much water during this time.
Water it less frequently than in the spring and summer, and let the soil dry completely between watering.
During the dormancy period large, well-established jades may only require one or two watering.
When watering avoid splashing water on the leaves as this can cause rot in a humid environment.
Almost There
Because jade plants are sensitive to salts in tap water, use filtered or distilled water instead if your tap water isn’t up to par.
If the plant begins to drop leaves, the leaves begin to shrivel, or brown spots appearing on the leaves the plant requires additional water.
The plant is getting too much water if the leaves become squishy, and waterlogged.
Jade plants should only be given a small amount of food. Use a diluted, solution of a standard liquid houseplant…
…fertilizer or a cactus and succulent fertilizer.
During the winter keep the plants away from drafty areas and away from cold windows.

Factor that Affect Growing
There are many factor that can affect, the growth of Jade it self and from external factor even internal factor it self.
Above I am gonna breakdown the factors, one by one:
Time
Time is the first thing first. In this example, we take a look at my Crassula Gollum.
Crassula ‘Gollum’ has been in my collection or at least 15 years.
It grew in a wide low pot in dry soil for at least 15 years and each of the 3 main stems, was around 3′′ in diameter.
The plant thrived outdoors on the fenced deck where…
…squirrels promptly reduced the plant to mangled limbs and stems.
This was in one day! I rooted some stems and saved the rest but the thing is time and patience is the key for it.
Keep Going..
Photosynthesis
Give the plant very good growing conditions and, for a jade plant that means direct sunlight for several hours per day.
Don’t overwater and don’t over fertilize. Crassula prefers clay pots.
Adequate sunlight is the energy needed to make carbohydrates.
Last but not least…
Keeping foliage
Trees grow outdoors during the summer so most of the food they consume and contribute to their size.
In the trunk products photosynthesis are deposited close to the limbs that hold the leaves that make up the food.
That’s why it’s important to remove lower limbs gradually, not all at once if necessary.
I assume it works the same way for jade plants.
Therefore, don’t limb up the plant and preserve the foliage as much as you can.
As the plant gets taller prune it back to keep it as “squatty” as possible.
If the trunk has developed a thick structure you can shape it as you wish as a gardener.
Conclusion
Jade is a good plant for beginners and its easy to take care of it cause of the good resilient in extreme environments.
From above we can conclude that there’s 3 main things that you must be aware of when you want to grow…
…and care for the Jade plant and create thicker Jade.
Sum Up
Even Jade doesn’t need to have more care, other than any other plant.
It needs to be reminded that if you want to grow jade plants and you want it to become big…
…it’s possible to have your Jade become big.
But you need to be aware of 3 main things that I have told above.
For you if you want to have good and beauty Jade.
